How the plan works

One chapter each reading day — through the whole Old Testament once across three years.

New Testament

One chapter each reading day — through the whole New Testament three times across three years.

Rest days

Set aside to catch up, reflect, and pray through a psalm.

Why Daily Bread?

Practical instructions

Set a daily rhythm
Pick a consistent time and quiet place, and treat Bible reading as a regular habit.
Use a physical Bible
Read from a print Bible to minimize distractions and see the passage in its wider context.
Begin with prayer
Ask the Spirit to help you understand, believe, and obey what you read.
Follow the plan
Read the assigned Old and New Testament chapters each day, using rest days to catch up and pray a psalm.
Look for Jesus
Notice how every part of Scripture points toward Christ and the good news.
Consider the context
Ask what the text meant then, and only then apply it to life now.
Read with others
Share the plan with friends and talk about what God is showing you.
Journaling helps
Capture observations, questions, and prayers to slow down and remember.
Watch the colors
Let gold, red, purple, and green nudge you to live a life of redemption, mission, and repentance here on Earth.
Keep going
If you fall behind, restart with today's reading instead of trying to catch up on everything.

Background

What is biblical literacy?

Biblical literacy is a deep, Spirit-guided familiarity with the whole story, themes, and teachings of Scripture that enables individuals and communities to know God truly and reflect God's character in a broken world.

What is the liturgical calendar?

The liturgical calendar is the church's way of walking through the Gospel story each year — moving from longing and arrival (Advent, Christmas, Epiphany), through Christ's suffering and victory (Lent and Easter), into life empowered by the Spirit (Pentecost and the long stretch of Ordinary Time) — so that, even when specific readings do not follow a formal lectionary, the visual rhythm of the seasons continually invites God's people to remember Jesus, live his teachings, and bear witness to his Good News in the world.

All passages open in the Christian Standard Bible (CSB) on Bible.com. A three-year plan moves at a sustainable pace that favors depth over speed.
